Uganda Family Safari Itinerary

Day 1 - Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Equator Stop

Itinerary Image

Your family adventure kicks off with a morning pickup by your driver-guide from Kampala or Entebbe for a comfortable drive west towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, you will make a fun stop at the Equator crossing where the kids can participate in a fascinating water-drainage experiment demonstrating how the northern and southern hemispheres work. After a tasty, child-friendly lunch in Mbarara city, you will continue the drive into the park, checking into a family-friendly lodge to relax, stretch your legs, and enjoy your first dinner in the African wilderness.

Day 2 - Morning Family Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

Itinerary Image

Rise early for a thrilling morning game drive through the Kasenyi Plains, where an expert guide will help your family spot herds of elephants, cape buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and prowling lions before the sun gets too hot. You will head back to the lodge for lunch and a quick swim to cool down before setting off on an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This gentle, highly engaging water safari is a massive favorite for children, offering safe and exceptionally clear views of giant Nile crocodiles, hundreds of playful hippos, and elephants bathing near the shoreline

Day 3 - Scenic Crater Drive & Return Journey to the City

Itinerary Image

After a relaxed breakfast, your family will take a scenic drive through the breathtaking Katwe explosion craters, offering spectacular views of deep volcanic lakes and a chance to see traditional salt mining. You will then check out of your lodge and begin the return journey back toward Kampala or Entebbe, keeping an eye out for zebras along the highway as you drive. Arrive in the city in the late afternoon, checking into your hotel for a cozy evening and a warm dinner to recharge for the next day's urban exploration.

Day 4 - Family-Friendly City Tour (Kampala & Entebbe)

Itinerary Image

Today is dedicated to an exciting, child-friendly city tour starting with a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Entebbe Zoo), where the family can see rescued wildlife up close and learn about conservation efforts. Next, you will visit the beautiful Entebbe Botanical Gardens on the shores of Lake Victoria, where kids can spot wild monkeys swinging from century-old trees and enjoy a lakeside picnic lunch. The afternoon concludes with a visit to a lively local crafts market to practice bartering for handmade toys, colorful fabrics, and unique souvenirs before heading back to your hotel.

Day 5 - Souvenir Shopping & Departure

Itinerary Image

Enjoy a late, relaxed family breakfast at the hotel and take some time to pack your bags and reflect on your safari memories. Depending on your flight schedule, your guide will take you for any last-minute souvenir shopping or a relaxing stroll along a Lake Victoria beach cafe. Finally, your driver will transfer your family to Entebbe International Airport or your preferred city drop-off point, marking the conclusion of your wonderful Ugandan holiday

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Queen Elizabeth National Park safe for young children?

A: Yes, it is very safe. You will be viewing wildlife from the safety of an enclosed 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof. The lodges we select are family-friendly, well-fenced, and accustomed to hosting children. However, adults must always supervise children around the lodge grounds

Are there age restrictions for any of the activities on this itinerary?

A: Unlike primate tracking (which requires kids to be 12–15 years old), savannah game drives, boat cruises, and the city tour have no age limits. This makes this specific itinerary perfect for families traveling with toddlers or young children.

What kind of vehicle will my family be traveling in?

A: You will travel in a spacious 4x4 Safari Land Cruiser or Safari Van equipped with a pop-up roof for optimal wildlife viewing, charging ports for tablets/phones, and plenty of room for luggage and strollers

How do you handle picky eaters or dietary restrictions during the safari?

A: The lodges and hotels we partner with offer excellent multi-cuisine menus (including child-friendly favorites like pasta, chips, and fresh fruit). Dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or allergies can easily be catered to as long as you inform us in advance.

Can this itinerary be customized if my kids get tired easily?

A: Absolutely. This safari is intentionally designed with shorter drive times on days 2 and 4 to prevent fatigue. If the kids get tired during a game drive, your private guide can easily drive back to the lodge early for a nap or pool time without disrupting anyone else's schedule.
