5 Days Uganda Budget Safari

Kibale forest

The 5-Day Primates & Powerful Falls Discovery

Destinations: Murchison Falls & Kibale Forest

Safari Price: $1,050 – $1,200 per person (Based on 2 people sharing)

Day 1: Tracking Rhinos and the Mighty Nile

Your safari kicks off with a drive north toward Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected wilderness. Along the way, you will stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided walking safari to see the only wild southern white rhinos in the country. This experience brings you remarkably close to these prehistoric creatures on foot, providing excellent photography opportunities. After lunch, you will proceed into the park, crossing the Nile to reach your budget camp where you can listen to the distant roar of the river as you drift off to sleep.

Budget Accommodation: Red Chilli Rest Camp (Safari Tents).

Day 2: Game Drives and a Boat Safari to the Falls

The day starts with an early morning game drive across the Borassus palm-dotted savannah, where you will look for lions, leopards, giraffes, and massive herds of elephants. The open plains are a haven for wildlife, and your guide will help you spot elusive predators returning from their night hunts. In the afternoon, you will board a boat for a three-hour cruise up the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. You will see hundreds of hippos and enormous Nile crocodiles lining the banks before witnessing the river explode through a narrow gorge in a thunderous display of white water.

Budget Accommodation: Red Chilli Rest Camp.

Day 3: The Top of the Falls and the Forest Corridor

After breakfast, you will take a short drive to the “Top of the Falls” to stand right at the edge where the Nile is forced through a 7-meter gap; the vibration of the ground beneath your feet is truly humbling. From here, you begin a long but scenic transfer south toward the “Primate Capital of the World,” Kibale Forest. The route takes you through the Albertine Rift with views of Lake Albert and the blue mountains of Congo in the distance. You will arrive in the lush, tropical surroundings of Kibale in the late evening, ready for your primate adventure.

Budget Accommodation: Kibale Eco-Home or Little Monkey Camp.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in the Primate Capital

Today is dedicated to our closest cousins, the chimpanzees, as you head into the moist evergreen rainforest of Kibale. With a high success rate, you will track a habituated troop, listening for their deafening pant-hoots that echo through the canopy before finding them. You will spend an hour watching them swing through branches and interact in their complex social groups. In the afternoon, you will visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run project where you can spot up to eight different species of primates and the famous Great Blue Turaco bird.

Budget Accommodation: Kibale Eco-Home.

Day 5: Crater Lakes and the Drive Home

On your final morning, you will take a short hike around the beautiful “Top of the World” crater lakes, which offer panoramic views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the surrounding tea plantations. The emerald-green water of the craters against the backdrop of the mountains provides a perfect final memory of Uganda’s diverse landscapes. After a traditional lunch, you will begin the 5-to-6-hour drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. Your safari concludes with a drop-off at your residence or the airport for your onward flight.
