The 7-Day Pearl of Africa Highlights
Destinations: Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth NP & Lake Bunyonyi
Safari Price: $1,750 – $1,950 per person (Based on 2 people sharing)
Day 1: Transfer to the Primate Capital
The journey begins with a departure from the city toward Fort Portal, a beautiful town nestled in the shadows of the “Mountains of the Moon.” You will drive through a landscape of rolling tea estates and local villages, arriving at Kibale Forest National Park in the afternoon. After checking into your budget forest camp, you can take a guided nature walk in the surrounding forest to spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and various tropical butterflies. The evening is spent enjoying a campfire under the stars in one of Uganda’s most biodiverse regions.
Budget Accommodation: Little Monkey Camp.
Day 2: Chimpanzees and the Queen’s Savannah
After an exhilarating morning tracking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, you will have lunch and begin the drive south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The route crosses the Equator once more and offers stunning views of the Rwenzori mountain range. As you enter the park, you will likely see elephants and kobs grazing by the roadside. You will settle into your lodge located near the Kazinga Channel, where the sounds of hippos often provide a natural soundtrack to your evening meal.

Budget Accommodation: The Elephant Home or Engiri Game Lodge.
Day 3: Wildlife Buffet and the Kazinga Channel
Your morning game drive takes you to the Kasenyi plains, a primary breeding ground for Uganda Kobs and a hotspot for lion sightings. You will search for the “Big Four” (excluding rhinos) and enjoy the vastness of the savannah as the sun rises. In the afternoon, you will embark on a two-hour boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. This channel holds one of the world’s highest concentrations of hippos and offers an incredible opportunity to see elephants and buffaloes coming down to the water to drink.

Budget Accommodation: Engiri Game Lodge.
Day 4: Tree-Climbing Lions and the Lake of 29 Islands
Leaving the central part of the park, you will drive south to the remote Ishasha sector, famous for its unique population of tree-climbing lions. You will search the large fig trees for these predators, which lounge in the branches to escape the heat and insects of the ground. After this search, you will continue your journey further south into the highlands, arriving at the breathtaking Lake Bunyonyi. This deep, blue lake is dotted with 29 islands and surrounded by steep terraced hills, providing one of the most picturesque settings in Africa.

Budget Accommodation: Lake Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
Day 5: Island Exploration and Cultural Immersion
Today is a day for relaxation and local exploration on Africa’s second-deepest lake. You will board a traditional dugout canoe or a small motorized boat to visit several of the lake’s islands, including the infamous Punishment Island. Your local guide will share the fascinating and sometimes dark history associated with these islands. In the afternoon, you can hike to a viewpoint for a stunning panoramic photo of the lake or visit a local market to interact with the Bakiga people before returning for a peaceful lakeside dinner.
Budget Accommodation: Lake Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
Day 6: Walking Safari in Lake Mburo
Leaving the highlands, you will head toward Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest of Uganda’s savannah parks but rich in unique wildlife. Unlike other parks, Mburo is the best place to see large herds of Zebras, Elands, and Impalas. Since there are no elephants or lions in the main part of this park, it is one of the few places where you can enjoy a safe guided walking safari. Walking among these animals provides a completely different perspective of the African bush and allows for a quieter, more intimate connection with nature.

Budget Accommodation: Eagle’s Nest Lodge.
Day 7: Final Game Drive and Return to Entebbe
On your final day, you will take one last morning game drive to search for leopards and the shy sitatunga antelope in the park’s wetlands. After breakfast, you will begin the drive back to Entebbe, stopping once more at the Equator for any last-minute souvenir shopping. You will arrive back in the late afternoon, where your guide will drop you at the airport or your hotel. This week-long journey ensures you have seen the very best of Uganda’s primates, predators, and stunning landscapes at an affordable price.
